Food For Thought

Many years ago there was an article published in SmartMoney magazine titled: Pottery Barn UNSTUFFED. I'm pretty sure Pottery Barn has improved on their product quality over the years, but nothing can compare to a piece of furniture built from genuine solid wood.

A very interesting read for a number of reasons especially if you are in the market for new furniture. You may be surprised at how poorly furniture from popular furniture stores is actually constructed. Mass produced furniture made from mdf (plywood), veneers and even plastic sometimes are marketed to look like solid wood furniture. Always pay attention to the product descriptions/details for the pieces you are looking at. This  is a great way to know what type of product you are investing your money in. Again, many furniture businesses may have improved the quality of their products since the article was published, but based on the descriptions on some of the websites they still using mdf and veneers along side of hardwoods.

Read this informative article so you can be a more knowledgeable consumer.

If you are in the market to purchase furniture that will stand the test of time may we suggest investing in a quality solid wood piece of furniture. If your heart is set on a design from a particular store just know that Nature's Pine can duplicate almost anything. The end result for you will be a quality constructed piece of furniture made to your specifications that will last for generations.

Here are a few photos of furniture pieces clients have had us reproduce for them over the years.

The Charlotte Dresser - by Pottery Barn.

Nature's Pine version.
This piece is actually in my daughter's room. I love the simple design of this piece, but I wanted it to be more of a chest of drawers (taller) rather than a dresser so I had it built with 3 large drawers verses 2. I had the piece made from cherry wood with a lacquered finish. The stain is Red Mahogany by Minwax.

The Delman Bed by Pottery Barn

Nature's Pine version.
Solid pine bed with a painted, distressed and wax finish.
The client wanted a little different shape on the headboard and no finials.
